April, 2013
Congratulations to Rick Schoonmaker for winning the first
IPPSC match of the season. Weather was drizzly but sixteen shooters still came, shot, and went home happy.
Welcome to the several new shooters who joined us. We'll hope you'll be back to shoot with us again soon.
March Match 2013
SPS completed its final match of
the 2012-2013 season on March 26. Scores are posted under Match Results. We'll pick up again in October, at the
Sharp Range. During the summer months, matches will be offered by IPPSC, at the Smelterville range, and by INAS, at
the Mica Range. I would also recommend that you try out-of-town matches for pistol or multi-gun, especially those offered
in the Tri-Cities and Yakima ranges and those offered by the Big Sky Club, in Missoula. Have a great summer.
February 17, 2013
Our Febrary match attracted 14 shooters, including
Dusty Lohof from Missoula - who won - and Joe Gaines. Joe is a local but has not been a regular at SPS matches. He
took second. Our final match of the season will be held March 23. That is also a Saturday, so things will get
rolling early in order to clear the north bay by 9AM. Hope to see you there.
January 23
Had a small but enjoyable match on Sunday. Ten shooters gave
up watching football to come shoot with us! We ran four regular stages, including a classifer, and one bonus stage.
Our next match is February 15, which is a Saturday. We'll be a lilttle more pressed for range time but will still
offer at least the regular four stages. Smitty promises to inject more creativity into stage design at the match!
January 20
Our next match is Sunday, January
20. We'll do a minimum of four stages, including a classifier. The classifier is three strings so not sure we'll
have time for an extra run for fun but we'll try. We'll start set-up at 7AM and should start shooting before 8.
See you there.
December 3
The third match of the winter season
will be held at the Sharp range on Sunday, December 9. The Classifier will be CM 09-02, Diamond Cutter. We'll
also do the Repeatable Standards course and two, full-bay action stages, either 24 or 32 rounds. Bring 150 rounds, just
to be safe. Look forward to seeing you there.
November 18, 2012
Had another fine match today, our second for the season.
Congratulations to Sean Smith for his overall victory. There were lots of "No Shoots", especially on
the Classifier, but we all had a good time. There were 19 shooters, including a few we hadn't met before. Welcome!
Our
next match will be on December 9. Also, INAS (Inland Northwest Action Shooters) is going to sponsor a Range Officer
training class next spring. I'll post dates in an email but you can check right away at <www.inas.us>>. There
will also be a training and development course offered; more
information available on the INAS site and I'll pass it
along, too.
Thanks for a good time today. Look forward to seeing you all on December 9. Today's scores
can be found under "Match Results".
October 28, 2012
The first SPS match of the winter season was held
today (Scores posted under Match Results). There were fifteen shooters and we shot four stages, using our new drop-turner
for two of them. We scored it as a bonus, disappearing target, although I recall reading that two exposures of the drop-turner
change it into a regular target for scoring purposes. I'll look it up and adjust, if necessary. Also, we'll use
an activator box next time; use of the pull rope got a little awkward. Also, remind me not to include a 32 round stage
without a 32 round score card! Entering scores was a pain. All in all, however, we had a fine match. Thank
you all for coming.
By the way, if you'd like to receive scores via email, make sure I have yours. Also,
several of you (Mark, Wayne, Smitty, Sean Talley, etc.) have let your USPSA memberships expire. I'll delay a few days
before turning in the Classifier Scores, in case you thought you were current.

July 22
The Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match was completed yesterday under
sunny skies and beautiful conditions. Thirty-seven shooters completed the seven stages before 3PM and were on their
way - some with trophies or prizes in hand - by about 4. It was a great day for all. Special thanks to the Shoshone
County Range for providing access to some fine shooting and to those who prepared food and offered drinks and chips for sale.
Send any comments regarding match design for next year to Rick, so he can plan and prepare for another great steel match!
Thank you for your support. Match results are posted.
July 3
The EBMMM is fast approaching. If you haven't gotten your entry form in yet please do.
At the very least email me so we can get a close headcount. There will be 7 stages of fun and long range weather forecast
looks promising.
There will be camping allowed at the range
this year so if that is your plan, please let me know so I can let the range know. The range will have food for us to
buy again this year and ALL of the proceeds go directly to the range for range improvements. (This is one reason for
getting a good headcount.) For those of you who came last year will notice the clubhouse is finished this year so I
wont have to bring my trailer for a scoring shack. :-) final scores will be posted at SPPL.US.
Don't forget to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
We will have some water for you but be prepared.
Thanks
and hope to see everyone at the match. Any questions? Call Rick at 208-771-1666
Email is threegun35@yahoo.com

EBMMM update. There
will be concessions at the range like last year. All monies go directly to the range. Also, perhaps more important,
the range will allow for camping. If you're coming from out of town and want to camp, please contact Rick before the
match at <threegun35@yahoo.com>.
June 6, 2012
Go to the Match Information area for news
about the 2012 EBMMM and to download the registration form.
May 30, 2012
As you know, our May match had to be cancelled because we
had not yet secured necessary liability coverage. That problem has been resolved and we have scheduled our next match
for June 23. It will consist of four stages, including a USPSA classifier (99-41). The weather should be beautiful
and we'll look forward to seeing you on the range.
Also, to help you plan ahead, the 12th
Annual Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match will be held at the Smeltervill range again this year. It
is scheduled for Saturday, July 21. More information and a registration form will be posted on this site shortly and
will also be distributed to last year's group. Keep and eye out for it!
April 22, 2012
IPPSC ran its first match on Saturday,
April 21. Although turnout was light, there were four well-designed stages and good weather. The Smelterville
range really does have great potential and acreage on the east side of the creek has been secured from the Bureau of Land
Management. The area is very well suited for pistol, shotgun, and short-range rifle, should interest in a multi-gun
match develop as the club grows. If a few berms can be built and a storage facility secured, there will be very fine
shooting available. Even with limited bays now, it's possible to run fun stages. So don't miss an opportunity
to be in at the start of a new club and a new range!

Greetings Everyone,
I am happy to announce the first match of the season for the
Idaho Panhandle Practical Shooting Club, Inc.
The first match of the year will be on April 21st
at the Shoshone County Public Shooting Range in Smelterville Idaho.
We will have 4 stages which will include a classifier.
Be sure to bring at least 150 rounds. You can always take home what you don’t shoot.
Please come early and help
set us. Being a new club we need all the help we can get.
Directions to the range are as follows:
Take
I-90 to Smelterville. (Exit 48) Turn south. Go until the 3-way stop and turn left (east) for about ½ mile
and turn right (south) on Government Gulch Rd. Drive up the canyon for 2 miles and you are there.

March 6
Our last match of the winter season will be held at Sharp
on Sunday, March 11. There will be four stages: a classifier, a 24 round Repeatable Standards course, and two
24 round "run and gun courses". Bring about 125 rounds. Fee is $15 and we'll be out before noon. Hope
to see you there; doors open at 7AM and we're usually shooting by 7:30.
February 5, 2012
We will hold a Special Classifier Match
on Sunday, February 12, 2012. There will be four stages. For those not yet classified in USPSA, the four scores
will result in a preliminary classification. Thereafter, the best six or the most recent eight classifiers will be used
to establish your classification.
Since USPSA charges us extra for the scores submitted, the charge for all shooters
will be $20. We decided to subsidize those not yet members of the Sharp Range - for whom we are charged $10 each - just
to encourage greater participation in the classification effort. This is our next to final match for the season (assuming
decent weather in April), so come out and get classified!
January 11, 2012
The next SPS match is on Sunday, January 15. We'll run four stages, including
the CM06-1 (Big Barricade). Look forward to seeing you at the range!
January 11, 2012
Ladies and Gentlemen of the shooting community,
It is my pleasure to officially
announce the formation of a new
shooting club. Our name is the
“Idaho Panhandle Practical Shooting Club,
Inc. (IPPSC).
Our first annual meeting will be on January 21, 2012 in the Pinehurst
Elementary School
at 6:00pm. Directions to the school is: Take I90 to
Pinehurst (Exit 45). Travel south until the 4 way stop
and turn right
(west). Drive a couple hundred yards and you are there. Please,
there are to be no firearms
at the meeting as it is a public school.
Club membership is $25.00. This entitles you to a voice in the club
as well as $5.00 off at every match. After 5 matches you have paid for
your membership. Please support us and the shooting
community. You
will also receive a copy of the by-laws at your request. The
membership applications
will be available at: WWW.SPPL.US as well as
matches. If you let me know I will also snail mail or email one to
you.
We will be holding matches at the “Shoshone County Public Shooting
Range” in Smelterville Idaho.
The range is about 40 minutes east of
Coeur d’Alene on Interstate 90. Directions will be included in
each
match reminder.
We will be conducting USPSA and Steel Challenge matches. The steel
match will
be the Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match in July. The USPSA
matches will comprise the other months from April to
October. The
USPSA matches will be 4-5 stage matches with a classifier. I am
hopeful we will complete
our USPSA affiliation requirements before the
first match. We need at least 10 USPSA members willing to put their
name on the club list.
The match schedule will be as follows:
April, Saturday the 21st – USPSA
May, Saturday the 19th – USPSA
June, Saturday the 23rd – USPSA
July, Saturday the 21st – The
Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match
August, Saturday the 18th – USPSA
September, Saturday the 22nd – USPSA
October, Saturday the 20th – USPSA
All the matches should be completed by 2:30 or 3:00 if not earlier.
We won’t really know until we run a few and get a good feel for this
range. The match should run as follows:
0700 – match set up
0830 – registration
0900 – shooters meeting and stage walk through
0930
to 0945 shooting begins
Thank You all for your support,
Rick Schoonmaker, President
Idaho Panhandle Practical
Shooting Club, Inc.

December 17, 2011
Had a good match today, with 20 shooters. Managed
to complete four stages and clear the range by the imposed deadline of 11AM. That's not easy to do, as shooters will
attest! Things have to go smoothly and everybody has to stay tuned to re-set duties and be ready when called in order
for us to finish on time. I appreciate the help of those who pitched in, especially RO's and Score Keepers. We'll
improve our efficiency with each match. Our standard will be to have the RO call out times and scores loudly and clearly,
with the Score Keeper being equally loud and clear in affirming what was heard. That way, the shooter knows what
the call was and the Score Keeper knows that what was recorded was what was called. It's helpful if the Score Keeper
can total scores given, although there is no point in bogging down if things are moving fast. However, by totaling,
errors in assigned points will be caught and I won't have to guess later. The speed of the match comes from the combination
of fast reset, and shooter vigilance in preparing to come to the start-box when called. Matches are a social event,
too, and I don't want to discourage people from enjoying that aspect of the event. However, be mindful of your primary
responsibilities so we don't lose time.
Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you all in January. Haven't
decided yet whether or not to run a special classifier match. They are more expensive and can be slower, unless we use
only single string courses, which are short and fast. I will ask for input from the email group. Stay tuned!
December 8, 2011
Our next match is on December 17, 2011. That's
a Saturday. Doors open at 7AM and we'll be shooting by 7:30AM in order to clear the range by 11 or so. We'll
plan for four stages. Entry fee is $15, for those who are members of the Sharp Range. If not, the fee will be
$20. The club is charged $10 for each non-range member, so we split the difference. Hope to see you there!
Also,
since we're already looking forward to outdoor shooting with the Idaho Panhandle Practical Shooting Club, in Smelterville,
Idaho, thought I'd post the probable match dates for next season so that you can get them on your calendar. We'll start
on April 21 (weather permitting) and follow up with regular matches on May 19, June 23, August 18, September 22, and October
20 (also weather permitting). The Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match will be held on July 21. This is a trophy match,
and will take up the entire range, as it did this year.
We all look forward to developing the Smelterville
range to its full potential - which is considerable - so do plan to attend as many matches as your schedule allows. More
information regarding the matches, charges, start times, etc. will be posted as we finalize plans.
