Inland Empire 3-Gun

The SPPL Inland Empire 3 Gun Championship is just around the corner Sept 29th and 30th. You may have already sent your entry but if you have not the match is filling up fast. Any question about rules we are following the Tri-Gun Challenge rules that are at www.trigunchallenge.com. Heavy Metal is no optics on any gun, pump shotgun, .308+ rifle with 20 rnd mags and .45 acp with 8 rnd mags. Two hits anywhere or a single ‘A’ hit will neutralize the targets.

You will need to bring the following ammunition: 150 rnds shotgun, 10 slugs, 150 rifle, and 150 pistol. Weather will be cooler than July so bring appropriate clothing. Rifles should be sighted in with shots from close up to 300 yds. We will have multiple shooting positions on the long distance stage but nothing as difficult as last year.

We will have 9 stages with a new format, ALL stages are multi-gun with a USPSA pistol only classifier as stage 9. The 3 Gun will score time plus but the classifier will score as its own match. We think that this will work best yet be scored as separate matches with no awards going for the classifier.

We will have plaques for the following winners and following divisions: 1-2-3 Overall as well as 1-2-3 in Open, Tactical, Iron, and Heavy Metal. We will also award 1-2-3-Super Senior, 1-2-3 Senior, Top Lady, and Top Junior.

Our prize table support is phenomenal with a complete DPMS AR-15, several uppers, several scopes, gun cases, gun powders, bullets, knives, and over $1000 in loaded ammunitions. ALL prizes are given away by random raffle and all plaques are awarded by overall match placement.

If you have not entered there is still time, download your application. We will start the match at our normal time to allow the out of town shooters time to get here.

See you soon as 3 Guns are three times the FUN!!!

Upcoming August Events!

AUGUST 13th SPEED STEEL
Eric Wesselman will be hosting a Speed Steel event the SECOND SUNDAY of each month at FRGC. He is using my EBMMM steel and this is great practice on draw to first shot and target to target acquisition. While this is not an SPPL event we encourage everyone to try this out as it is excellent practice and is easy to set up.

AUGUST 26th SPPL Match
The last Saturday of August will be our next SPPL IPSC match. If you have any stage designs for the two Natural Terrain Bays please submit them early.

SPPL to Host NROI Level I (RO) Course

SPPL will host a National Range Officers Institute (NROI) Level I (Range Officer) course October 28-29 in Spokane. Location will probably be Sharp Shooting but we are still finalizing that detail.

The Level I course is recommend for all IPSC/USPSA competitors. Knowing the rules WILL make you a better competitor regardless of whether you actually ever act as an RO or not. If you have been certified in the past and/or were certified under a previous rule book this course makes a great refresher.

The course consists of a full day of classroom work on Saturday, a bit of homework on Saturday night, a couple more hours of classroom work Sunday morning and a Live Fire exercise where each student acts as an RO running other students who are shooting the special course of fire.

Cost for the class will be $40.00 payable by check or money order to SPPL. We prefer to not hassle with cash if at all possible. Fill out the registration form and mail it to:

Kevin Imel - L2544
ATTN: RO Class
PO Box 217
Palouse, WA 99161-0217

You can also turn in your application and check to Kevin or Bill at the SPPL matches held at FRGC.

You *MUST* be a member in good standing of USPSA to attend this class. You can join USPSA at the class but it is easier on all concerned if you join before hand. You do not need to be a member of SPPL to take the course.

Checks will be deposited in the SPPL bank account. In the event that this class is cancelled a full refund will be issued. Cancellations will be given a full refund until October 10. There will be no refunds after October 10.

Students must supply a copy of the 2004 (Green) Rule Book. These can be ordered from the USPSA website if you have lost the copy USPSA mailed you last year. There will be a very limited supply available at the class.

More info will be posted as we get closer to the class.

New Fun Match: The War Wagon 3-Gun Challenge!

INVITATION
Here is your invitation to the 2006 War Wagon 3 gun Challenge Fun Match at Fernan Rod & Gun Club June 24th. Due to time, we are limiting our inaugural match to 15 Teams on a first sign up basis. The cost is $20 for
SPPL members and $25 for all others. We will have everything set up and tested on Friday so we can start shooting at 9:00 AM. A schedule will be posted to the morning shooters and afternoon shooters. Those from out of town will be given afternoon slots unless you request AM.

FORMAT AND VENUE
If you have never shot the "Checker Challenge" in Libby, MT you have missed a really fun team match. Our format will be very similar except that this will be a 3 Gun event. First, you pick a partner / driver and
drive an old Checker Cab through the range and shoot from the vehicle from the passenger side with an RO in the back (and cameraman too) You shoot on 6-7 different bays made into various course of fire with steel and paper targets but combined as a single stage. Next is your drivers turn and shoots with you driving for him, combining points and time making this a Team Event.

VEHICLE AND COF
The War Wagon 3 Gun Challenge, you will be shooting 3 Guns from the passenger side of a van with a large sliding door with a seat transfixed so that you can be safely strapped in. We will start an the big gate on
the FRGC range and shoot Bay 1-2-3 with shotgun on steel, Bay 4 with slugs at paper targets, Bay 5 & 6 with pistol, then finish with rifle between the opening at the covered pistol line at 50+ yds ending the course on the
rifle line shooting self setting steel at 100-200+ yds.

We will have a suggested round count per gun as we get closer to the date. There will be a riding RO in the back of the van for both advice as well as safety. We will keep everyone, including spectators, on the north side
of the road to watch, set steel, and tape targets between each shooters.

I know this sounds like borderline insanity but I think we could really have some 3 Gun fun in a safe setting. What the heck, we are in Northern Idaho!!! We will award some type of Go-Cart plaques or trophies to the Top
5 Teams.

Farragut Range Under Attack: Could FRGC Be Next?

FROM NRA:

IDAHO SHOOTING RANGE UNDER ATTACK

Local anti-gunners have filed suit against the Idaho Department of Fish
and Game (IDFG) to stop the agency from making improvements to a public
shooting range. The opponents have asked for a permanent injunction
not only to prevent IDFG from making improvements to the range, but to
prevent the agency from using the property as a shooting range.

The Farragut Shooting Range was built in 1942 for the Farragut Naval
Training Center in support of the war effort. The base was
decommissioned after the war and came into IDFG ownership in 1950, and
has been in continuous use as a public range since that time. The range
has hosted state championship competitions, international handgun
metallic silhouette competitions, cowboy action events, hunter
education classes, hunter sight-in days, youth and ladies shooting
clinics, and individual shooters.

The agency's plan is to make long-needed improvements, but not to
expand the range as the opponents claim. The opponents contend that
there is no local support for the range.

IDFG NEEDS YOUR HELP, especially from state residents, and those living
in the Spokane, Wash.- area. Letters of support should be addressed to
David Leptich, Regional Wildlife Habitat Biologist, 2750 Kathleen
Avenue, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83815. Mr. Leptich's e-mail address is:
dleptich@idfg.idaho.gov.

IDFG needs to hear from both individual shooters and organized shooters
who can have one of their officers write a letter, reference the size
of their membership, and voice support for the project.

Silent Pistol - Allen Wheeler

We are saddened to report the passing of Allen Wheeler on 25 May after a short battle with cancer. WWW.SPPL.US Debuts New Look

Thanks to the graphic artist talent of fellow shooter Charlene at RedheaDesign (you may know her as SigLady at the BrianEnos.com forums) we have a new website banner, a rejuvenated logo, and a new color scheme for the website! Thanks Charlene for all the great work and awesome ideas!

There is still a bit of tweaking to get all the colors working right in the text areas of the site; that will be taking place over the next couple of days.

17 May 2005

June Match is the Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match

The June Match will be held June 18 and 19 and will be our Annual Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match. Put on your pink to honor Eddy's memory and come enjoy two full days of drag racing with a handgun on steel. We had to change the June match dates to avoid the USPSA Area 1 match as well as to get off the same weekend as the Coeur D'Alene Triathalon and Spokane's Hoopfest.

Saturday will feature seven challenging stages and the random draw prize table. Lunch is included in the match fee if you pre-register. Bill Sahlberg is the Saturday Match Director and Master of Ceremonies.

Sunday will once again feature handgun and shotgun Man-on-Man shoot-offs. You haven't lived life as a pistol competitor until you have gone head to head in the Man-on-Man shoot-offs!!! This will be a minimum of Triple Elimination depending on participation. Classes for handgun will be Limited and Open. Shotgun will be Auto and Pump. Plaques will be awarded to the top finisher in each class. Mike Brown and Kevin Imel are the Match Directors for the Sunday Man-on-Man event. This is a new format that Mike has been working on for almost a year and testing at local matches. It works great!

A separate match entry form is required. Download it here.
